What is HIFU?

HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. This medical machine uses a precise procedure to deliver ultrasound energy which heats and destroys tissue quickly which in turn stimulates collagen production, as the body goes to repair the damaged tissue. Collagen, a natural protein found in the skin, gives skin it’s elasticity and structure. As we age this naturally depletes and we produce less collagen, causing fine lines and wrinkles. HIFU treatment helps to stimulate more collagen production within the area treated.

HIFU is a non-invasive treatment and stimulates your natural collagen production, which in turn naturally rejuvenates the skin and body. It can be great for skin tightening and can be a good treatment for those who are looking for a rejuvenating treatment, without wanting to introduce manmade synthetics to help boost the anti-ageing process, or for those that have loose skin after weight loss.

HIFU treatment

HIFU has been used for years in physiotherapy and to treat certain tumours. However, in the past decade clinicians have adopted the HIFU treatment as it offers fantastic rejuvenating, skin tightening and skin lifting results. These results are apparent at both the superficial and deeper structural levels of the treated area.

What happens during a HIFU treatment?

Your Aesthetics Life skin therapist will clean the desired area in preparation for the treatment to commence. A gel will be applied and then they will use a handheld device that emits the ultrasound waves. One session typically lasts for 30-45 minutes. Some people may feel a little discomfort during the procedure, depending on the area treated; however, it is not a painful treatment. Some patients may feel the effects of the treatment afterwards and over-the-counter pain relief tablets can be taken if needed.

No preparation before the appointment is needed, and no downtime is required post treatment, making HIFU a fantastic lunchtime or after work treatment. Usual daily activities can be resumed after receiving HIFU treatment.

Generally, at Aesthetics Life we recommend between one and six sessions of HIFU treatment, depending on the area treated and the desired outcome. Often one treatment is enough. Top up treatments are often recommended after 12-18 months.

Why HIFU treatment?

HIFU treatment can have much stronger and quicker results when compared with other firming treatments. Such as laser (4-6 treatments), IPL (6-8 treatments), RF Needling (3-4 treatments), Bi-Polar RF (6-8 treatments) vs HIFU 1!
