The Dimpled Chin

A dimpled chin occurs because some of us naturally contract our chin more than others on opening and closing our mouth. It develops when the mentalis muscle, which inserts with several fibres in the dermis of this area, is contracted. This can lead to the appearance of wrinkles or a ‘pin cushioning’ effect on the chin. Eventually, the appearance occurs even at a rested stage as we get older.

A dimpled chin can be easily treated using precise administration of Botox® into the mentalis muscle. These anti-wrinkle injections can be used to prevent dimples from developing/deepening, or to soften existing lines. *For a dimpled chin, we often use Botox®, a botulinum toxin that was designed specifically for aesthetic purposes. The active ingredient, botulinum toxin type A, is a neurotoxin that stops nerves releasing a chemical signal to muscle cells, preventing these muscles from receiving strong stimulation, and relaxing them. Botox® is injected into the mentalis muscle which improves the appearance of the dimples on the chin, which can appear smoother or even disappear altogether.

After the Dimple Chin Botox® Anti-Wrinkle Treatment.

After the treatment, the positive effects of the treatment should be visible immediately, especially when compared to the ‘before’ photos. The effects of this treatment will generally last around 4 months. Most people can return to their normal daily life immediately after the treatment. Try to avoid touching and keep the area clean. Also, try to sleep on your back facing up. You might experience slight side effect inconveniences in the treated area, such as swelling or mild bruising. These side effects typically only last between 1 and 3 days.
