What are Temple Fillers?
The temples are an often-overlooked area in facial aesthetics. Surprising, because the loss of volume in these ‘hollow temples’ can have a big impact on the appearance and make us look much older. Temple fillers, which are specially designed to replace that lost volume, are a thicker and stronger type of filler than, for example, lip fillers.
How Can Temple Fillers Enhance My Appearance?
As we age, we naturally lose bone and fat in the face, especially from the temples but also from our cheeks and under the eyes. Losing fat isn’t always a good thing; these ‘pockets of fat’ help support the skin and give the structure to our face to look youthful.
Additionally, getting older also means our bodies produce less and lower quality collagen; the protein that keeps our skin firm and supple. The loss of this bone, fat and collagen combined can lead to saggy skin, hollow temples, hollow cheeks and bags under the eyes. Using temple fillers, we can add volume back in the temples of the face, restoring a fresh and more youthful appearance.
What to Expect Before, During and After the Temple Filler Treatment.
Before the Temple Filler Treatment.
During the initial consultation we will discuss the options and create a bespoke treatment plan, going over the benefits and possible side effects. Often, temple fillers are not a standalone treatment, but part of an overall facial rejuvenation treatment. We’ll take a few ‘before’ photos for you to compare the temple filler before and after results once the treatment has finished.
During the Temple Filler Treatment.
During the treatment itself we will apply a local anaesthetic lidocaine for a more comfortable treatment before we proceed to inject the temple fillers. For the temples, we use Restylane, a non-permanent filler containing Hyaluronic Acid (HA). HA is a natural component and something that our body makes daily. It is found throughout our body; in our skin, bones, joints and eyes. It acts as a lubricant and moisturiser due to its ability to attract and store water. Unfortunately, as we age, we are not able to produce as much HA as we did in our youth.
After the Temple Filler treatment.
After the treatment, the positive effects of the treatment should be visible immediately, especially when compared to the “before” photos. The effects of this treatment will last between 6 and 12 months. Most people can return to their normal daily life immediately after the treatment, though you might experience slight side effect inconveniences in the treated area, such as soreness, mild bruising or slight bleeding. These side effects typically only last between 1 and 3 days.
