What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure in which the top dead skin cells are gently removed with a surgical scalpel to show a fresh, more youthful complexion. It is also great if you have unwanted facial hair as it removes ‘peach fuzz’ (vellus hair) and softens the skin.
How does Dermaplaning work?
Dermaplaning is a skin exfoliation treatment, in which a surgical blade is used to remove the top layer of dead skin from the epidermis. This is done using light ‘feathering’ strokes. Removing this top layer of dead skin promotes the skin to regenerate and replace old skin cells with new ones, giving a fresh renewed complexion.
Dermaplaning doesn’t involve any harsh exfoliants and there is no downtime after treatment. You can expect to see brighter looking skin.
Dermaplaning can be a great treatment solution for pregnant or breast-feeding patients who want a deep skin exfoliation treatment but cannot have other treatments such as skin peels due to their condition.
Dermaplaning removes the epidermal dead skin, meaning products can penetrate the deeper levels of skin more easily. Therefore, dermaplaning can be a great first step before a chemical peel or medi-facial.
Dermaplaning can be used for anti-ageing treatment, lessening fine lines and wrinkles. Dermaplaning can also be used on patients with rough, dry skin to achieve a softer, glowing complexion, or on patients with mild acne scarring.
