What are smoker’s lines?
Smoker’s lines are vertical lines that appear between the nose and lips. They occur due to repetitive facial expressions, the natural ageing process and smoking.
These generally start as fine lines and, like other lines, they deepen over time. Smoking promotes these lines and can make them much more apparent. This is because of the repetitive pursing of the lips that smokers do whenever they have a cigarette. The toxins present in cigarettes also speed up the breakdown of collagen, something that also naturally happens as part of the ageing process. The two together can give a more aged appearance.
